KNOW YOUR RIGHTS DURING A ROADBLOCK

JOHANNESBURG – Moto journalist Ciro De Siena says motorists first need to know whether they have been stopped at an informal roadblock or a K78 roadblock.

The K78 police officers are allowed to search your vehicle or you without a warrant whereas in an informal one, they’re only allowed to conduct a search only if they can later prove extraordinary circumstances in a court of law.

De Siena says in the case of an informal roadblock, it is then your legal right to not give permission for the search or request to see a warrant.
