Bail for Pastor Tim Omotoso refused

Bail for Pastor Tim Omotoso refused

The bail application for controversial Nigerian pastor, Timothy Omotoso, based on new facts, has been refused by the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Omotoso entered the court room wearing a shiny spring sparkling suit to hear about his future after ‘new’ facts were represented by his attorneys, which included that:

He is a legal immigrant according to a letter he received from the Department of Home Affairs,
He has a fixed address, which has been confirmed,
He has been doing charitable deeds around South Africa, and
There is a financial statement shown by his congregant showing his financial ties to South Africa.

Omotoso’s case has been remanded to 1 November 2017 when the court will deal with this case and a further case involving five additional charges of fraud and being in the country illegally.

Advocate Alwyn Rossouw SC, for Omotoso, brought the second application on new facts, saying he was in fact deemed a legal immigrant, contrary to findings in his first bail application.

The controversial pastor faces 22 charges related to contravention of the Sexual Offences Act, including two counts of rape.

Some of the complainants are as young as 13.

About 100 people were at the court to support Omotoso.

Omotoso was denied bail in June due to his being a flight risk, among other reasons.
