FINES WORTH MORE THAN R370K ISSUED ON WESTERN CAPE ROADS THIS WEEKEND

CAPE TOWN – Forty drunk drivers have been arrested on the province’s roads this past weekend.

Traffic officials say that one pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Du Noon.

Two speedsters have also been arrested in Touwsriver and Beaufort West.

Over R370,000 worth of fines have also been issued for various road traffic violations.

Western Cape traffic chief Kenny Africa says: “We arrested a reckless driver in Caledon, and we arrested another person who failed to furnish his name and address for the traffic officer in Somerset West. We tested the speed of several motor vehicles and prosecuted 534 drivers for exceeding different speed limits.”
