SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE SERVICE IN KLERKSDORP MANAGEMENT MET WITH NIGERIAN REPRESENTATIVES

Klerksdorp: The acting Station Commander for Klerksdorp SAPS, Col George Mokgosi, and his management held a meeting with Nigerian representatives.

The purpose of a meeting was for the Nigerian Welfare committee to commit themselves to helping the police in fighting crime around Klerksdorp. The Station Commander requested the Foreign Nationals to assist in dealing with their fellow brothers who break the law.

Six welfare committee members attended which included their Chairperson, Mr. Samuel Nnaemeka Ngoka. Mr. Ngoka told the meeting that they want to break the stigma attached to Nigerians as not all of them are criminals, he said some of them are qualified in various fields and have stable jobs. He further explained that they are aware of their brothers who are involved in illegal activities such as human trafficking, prostitution, robbery and theft, fighting, illegal dealings, drugs.

That is the reason they decided to form a welfare committee that will work hand in hand with the police to be their eyes. He said they want to deal decisively with law-breakers in Nigerian community as he says their action tarnish the entire nationality. Mr. Ngoka said continued to say they have internal measures in place like fines for their troublesome countrymen as they say it works for them as most of them do not like paying so that also will help them refrain from criminal activities. One of the representatives said he was grateful for the meeting they had with the police, it was an eye-opener and had he knew about them his business would not have been closed. They also welcome the fact that one of the brothels in Pienaarsdorp is going to be demolished as they say if the law can deal decisively with Pienaarsdorp then crime will decline in Klerksdorp.

The management appreciated their efforts and contribution and advised them not to take the law in their hands and to do their interventions within the confines of the law.
