Nigerian migrants caught hiding under train in bid to enter Europe

A group of Nigerian immigrants who hid under a train in a bid to enter Germany have been arrested by the police in that country.

A group of Nigerian migrants who hid inside a freight train in a bid to enter Europe illegally have been arrested by the police in Germany near the Austrian border, New York Post reports.
It was gathered that the police discovered the Nigerians among 12 shivering migrants hiding under the train during a search with an officer saying the number of illegal immigrants caught trying to enter Germany illegally was on the rise in the region.

The suspects, according to the report, included seven adults and five unaccompanied minors who were said to be traveling from the Italian city of Verona to Munich, before they were caught in a spot check using heat detection cameras.

Most of the migrants who said they were from Somalia, Nigeria and Ivory Coast, were wearing only shorts and T-Shirts and had hidden under lorries transported on the train just as one of them had an injured leg and was unable to walk unaided.

German border police spokesman, Rainer Scharf, who led the team, said:“They’re freezing cold and in a poor physical state. We have already called the emergency services because we believe some of them are suffering from hypothermia.”

Germany which has the biggest economy in Europe has become the most attractive country for migrants fleeing war, especially in Syria, and poverty in Africa in recent years with some 890,000 arriving in 2015 alone, after Chancellor Angela Merkel opened the borders to prevent a humanitarian crisis.
