A difficult childhood forced Abisoye Ajayi-Akinfolarin to become self-reliant, and she eventually built a successful career in IT. Troubled by how few women work in her field, she decided to show young women how technology can empower them. Since 2012, her Pearls Africa Foundation has helped more than 400 disadvantaged girls in Lagos, Nigeria – many from the ‘floating slum’ of Makoko – learn computer coding and develop confidence to transform their lives.
