‘Decolonising the Curriculum: Justice, Humanisation and Healing through Education’ : Lovelyn Chidinma Nwadeyi

On 9 March 2017, Lovelyn Chidinma Nwadeyi did a public lecture at the University of Pretoria entitled ‘Decolonising the Curriculum: Justice, Humanisation and Healing through Education.’

Below is an excerpt from the conclusion:

‘Education is a beautiful thing. But in my home language, Igbo, the word for beautiful and the word for knife are the same thing. With a slight intonation, mmă becomes mma as if to suggest that we should be careful of the ways in which beautiful things can cut us, hurt us and scar us for life.’
