MORE THAN HALF OF SOUTH AFRICANS LIVING IN POVERTY – STATS SA

PRETORIA – Stats SA’s poverty trends report shows that one in two South Africans live under the poverty line, amounting to about 30 million people living on less than R441 per person per month.

Statistician-General Pali Lehohla released the report, which looked at poverty between 2006 and 2015 at a briefing in Pretoria.

Overall, the number of people living in poverty has declined since 2005 but has increased since 2011 to 55% in 2015.
