NIGERIA CAN BEAT SOUTH AFRICA, WIN AFCON – SEEDORF

The coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon Clarence Seedorf has tipped the Super Eagles for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations title after his side were dumped out of the tournament by the Super Eagles.

Cameroon ended the first half of their round of 16 tie against Eagles with a 2-1 lead but could not withstand the resolute Eagles in the second half as two goals from Odion Ighalo and another strike from Alex Iwobi ensured the defending champions would be heading home.

Consequently, Netherlands legend Seedorf has viewed his conquerors Nigeria as potential winners of the title.

He said if the Nigerian side maintain the same level of mentality, it would be hard for any side in the competition to stop them.

“I see your team going all the way if they can stay strong in the next matches,” he said.

He praised the Nigerian team for their doggedness and confessed that it was difficult to cope with the agility of Ighalo. He said his side specifically prepared for the Shanghai Shenhua striker but they couldn’t deal with his threat.

He said: “Let me congratulate all Nigerians for the win. We knew what your team can do and we tried to control the match especially when the tide was on our side but your team has a strong striking force which worked for you at the end of the day.

“We planned for Ighalo but his mental ability was very strong and justified it with two goals today. Musa was very strong on the wing and in the end, we suffered for it.”
